Our Story
I made my first deck from solid timber whilst in high school in 1975. I progressed to making fibreglass then plywood decks as trends changed and changed again. I have spent my life since High School working in the timber industry. I decided to relaunch Robinwood after making myself a longboard and then having friend ask me to make them one. So I am now combining 2 of my life’s passions, timber and skateboarding. I search for beautiful pieces of timber with which to craft a great looking but functional “skateboard sculpture” that you will be proud to own.
Our clients
Some just love the look of our products. Some just want to make an environmentally responsible choice in their purchase. Some like the fact that they are dealing direct with the maker. Some want a skateboard similar to what they rode in the 60’s and early 70’s. Almost 50% of “Team Robinwood”, my nickname for my customer base, are women of all ages and our customers now range from 7 to 57 years of age. Skateboarding is for everyone! Our boards suit riders from beginners to experienced skateboarders, but always the people blessed with good taste. :-)
Our Mission
What we do differently:
Where possible, we salvage, recycle and upcycle timber from various sources, to re-use a valuable natural resource, something we are passionate about, and to reduce timber going to landfill. I then shape it into longboard, pintail, and various cruiser shapes and skateboard storage racks to give my customers something hand-made and unique to ride. I love working with beautiful Australian hardwood species but am happy to make a custom shape from the sustainably sourced timber of your choosing if you have something in mind.
We set up each board for our riders personally and offer advice based on skateboarding experience of more than 4 decades. We compost all of our clean wood shavings and sawdust at our premises and plant at least one tree on our land for every product sold. Some call it closing the loop, we just think it is doing the right thing! We want to provide skateboarders a different option to mass produced decks. Our decks are solid timber not cheap imported ply, definitely old school and classic in design and feel to ride.
